Graduation
Article 67 (Completion of master's and doctoral degree programs and conferment of degree)
- For those who meet the term of study in Article 30 (1) and (3) and the conditions for completion of Article 64 may be conferred with Certificate of completion in the Form 7 or Form 8.
- Students who have completed a master's degree program, a bachelor's or master's degree program, passed a foreign language test and a master's degree comprehensive examination and thesis review, and submitted the finalized thesis will be conferred with the master's degree of Form 9 as set forth in Table 7. However, students who are exempt from thesis submission and want to obtain a master's degree from the special graduate school will be awarded a degree in the Form 10
- Those who have completed the doctoral degree program or integrated master's and doctoral degree, passed the foreign language test, the doctoral degree comprehensive examination and the thesis review, and submitted the final certified thesis will be awarded the doctorate degree in the Form 11 as set forth by Table 7.
- Notwithstanding paragraphs (2) and (3), part or all of the foreign language examination and the comprehensive examination may be exempted.
Article 68 (Granting Master’s or Doctoral degree to Abandoners)
A student who gives up a combined master's and doctorate degree course in the middle may be awarded a relevant degree if he/she satisfies the requirements of Article 67.
- A master's degree and doctoral degree may be awarded to those who have completed the requirements for each degree course and pass foreign language, comprehensive examinations and thesis review.

Foreign Language and Comprehensive Degree Examination
Article 37 (Foreign Language Examination)
- A foreign language examination will be conducted to evaluate the research ability of the major field.
- Candidates for foreign language exams must register for at least two semesters and earn at least six credits.
- Foreign language exam is held every semester and test subject is conducted in English. However, foreigners in English-speaking countries must choose Korean, while other foreigners can choose English or Korean subjects.
- Foreign students enrolled in the extra master's program of Chemical Environment and Convergence Technology of General Graduate School may be exempted from the foreign language test by approval of the dean
- Foreign language exams at special graduate schools are evaluated in the major areas of each department.
- 60 points of more out of 100 points in full will pass the foreign language test, and the student failed the test can try the exam again.
- Students wishing to take a foreign language test must submit the application form for foreign language test in the Form 17 to the Dean.
- Students who fall under any of the following may be exempted from the foreign language test.
- Students with excellent official English test scores
- Students identified as the first author in popular international journals (SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A & HCI) (one master's program, two doctoral programs and two doctoral and doctoral programs)
- Students who have acquired Level 3 (Middle Class) of Korean Proficiency Test or completed the middle course of Korean Language Course of Life-Long Education Center of Hankyong National University.
Article 38 (General Degree Examination)
- The comprehensive degree exam will be conducted to comprehensively evaluate the professional knowledge and research ability in the major field.
- Comprehensive degree exam is conducted once each semester. Qualifications are as follows.
- Master's degree course: Students who register for 3 semesters and earn 12 or more credit
- Doctoral degree course: Students who have registered more than 4 semesters and have earned at least 24 credits
- Integrated Master and Doctorate Course: Students who have registered at least 6 semesters and earned at least 48 credits
- Extra Master's degree course Chemical Environment Convergence Technology of General Graduate School: Students who have registered more than 2 semesters and earned 12 or more credits (including seasonal semesters) < Revision 2016.5.30.>
- The subjects of the comprehensive examination are three or more of the major subjects, and the head of the department decides with approval of the Dean.
- Comprehensive degree exam shall be passed when students earn more than 70 points out of 100 points for each course, and may retake the exam in case of failed courses.
- A student who wishes to take the comprehensive exam must submit the application form in the attached Form 18 to the Dean.
- Students who have been confirmed as the first author in popular international journals (SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A & HCI) (one master's program, two doctoral programs and two doctoral and doctoral programs) may be exempted from the comprehensive examination.
Article 39 (Examiners and Allowance Payment)
- Examiners of foreign language test are appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School, and the appointed examiners shall preside over questions and scoring of the test.
- The examiner of the comprehensive examination shall be appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School from the full-time faculty or adjunct professor, and the appointed examiner shall preside over the questions and scoring of the test.
- Persons engaged in the test such as the examiner may be paid allowances within the budget.
Thesis Submission Qualification Exam (Foreign Language and Comprehensive Degree Exam)
- Subjects: Students who wish to receive a degree
- Foreign Language Test
- A. Qualification: Those who have registered more than 2 semesters and have earned 6 credits or more
- B. Examination item: English
- C. Test Time: 60 minutes
- D. Acceptance Criteria: Those who have obtained 60 points or more will pass the test and the those failed to pass can take re-test.
- E. Examination time: twice a year (April and October)
- F. Exemption: Students who have obtained a certain score of TOEFL, TOEIC, etc or students who have acquired Level 3 (middle class) or higher in Korean Language Proficiency Test among foreign students who have chosen Korean as a foreign language (students who have completed Middle Level of Korean Language Course at International Cooperation Headquarters).
- G. How to apply: Prepare the application form for foreign language test → Approval by the academic adviser and head of department → Submit to the department office
- Comprehensive Degree Examination
- Qualification
- Master's Course: Those who have registered more than 3 semesters and have earned 12 credits or more
(however, students who entered the industrial college system shall earn 15 or more credits). - Doctoral Course: Those who have registered more than 4 semesters and earned at least 24 credits.
- Integrated Master and Doctorate Course: Those who registered more than 6 semesters and earned over 48 credits.
- Master's Course: Those who have registered more than 3 semesters and have earned 12 credits or more
- B. Subjects: At least 3 subjects in each major
- C. Test period: 3 hours (1 hour per subject)
- D. Acceptance Criteria: Students who have obtained 70 points or more out of 100 points in each subject will pass the test and those who failed may retake the test.
- E. Examination time: twice a year (April and October)
- F. Exemption: Students who have been identified as the first author in popular international journals (SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A & HCI) (1 for master's course, 2 for doctoral course and 2 for master and doctoral integrated course) will be exempted from the test.
- G. How to apply: Prepare the application form for the comprehensive exam → Approval by the academic advisor and head of department → Submit to the department office.

Conferment of Degree
Article 54 (Decision of Degree Conferment)
The Dean of the Graduate School shall submit the evaluation result of dissertation and the credit of the student who wishes to be conferred the degree with exemption of thesis submission to the Graduate Committee, and decide whether to confer the degree by a two-thirds vote of the registered committee members, and report the result to the President.
- Conferment of degree with exemption from thesis submission (Ex no-thesis degree conferment)
- A. A master's degree is awarded by completing 6 credits of major subjects without submitting a thesis.
- B. Qualification: Students of Special Graduate Schools
- Time to apply for degree conferment without thesis
- A. Enrolled students: The period defined in the second semester
- B. Persons other than enrolled students cannot apply for exemption from dissertation
- Additional credits for major courses: 6 credits
- Graduation Credit: 30 credits (33 credits for students of industrial college system)
Completion
Article 52 (Completion)
The criteria for completing a degree program are as follows, and the accreditation period of completion is end of each semester.
- The student must register for the school year of the degree course and obtain credits required for completion.
- The average grade of all courses taken by the student must be at least 3.00.
- The student must have completed at least the required credits for each degree program and the average grade of all courses must be 3.0 or higher.
- Even those who have completed the designated courses for each degree program will be deemed to have completed the course, not graduated.
- A. Students not submitted the thesis.
- B. Students who failed the thesis examination.
- C. Students who have been judged to have completed the graduation review (who passed the deadline of thesis submission).
- D. Students who have failed foreign language test and the comprehensive degree examination
- Certificate of Completion: A certificate of completion will not be issued to those who have completed the entire course for each degree program but have not received the degree.
